Rational Polypharmacy and Chronic Pain

This program will cover various aspects of polypharmacy in chronic non-cancer pain (CNCP) including safe opioids prescribing, best practices in opioid monitoring, use of adjunctive medications, and benefits or harms of combining multiple pharmaceutical drugs for CNCP.

Andrea Furlan, MD, PhD, is an associate professor in the department of medicine at the University of Toronto, staff physician and scientist at the Toronto Rehabilitation Institute, and an associate scientist at the Institute for Work & Health. She has extensive experience in reviewing the scientific literature of the Cochrane Collaboration and for clinical practice guidelines. Her research focus is on treatments of chronic pain including medications, complementary and alternative therapies, and rehabilitation. She developed Opioid Manager, a point-of-care tool for physicians using opioids for chronic pain and is co-chair of ECHO Ontario.
